NORTHUMBERLAND — Beatrice M. Fetter, 86, of Orange Street, passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, in ManorCare, Sunbury, where she had been a guest.
She was born Feb. 19, 1927, in Middleburg, a daughter of the late Ted and Mariam (Smith) Swartzlander. On Jan. 12, 1943, she married Carl R. Fetter, who preceded her in death on May 3, 2009.
Beatrice attended a one room school house in Middleburg.
She and her husband farmed together for many years in Freeburg. She was also employed with L’Aiglon Apparel, later David Knit Inc., and retired in 1988 from Champ Hats.
Beatrice attended Hummel’s United Methodist Church, Middleburg.
She was a great cook, loved to sew and play cards, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Susan J. Fetter, of Northumberland, and Allen D. Fetter and wife Bobbie, of Sunbury; three great-grandchildren, Janessa, Stephanie and Jonathan; two great-great-grandchildren, Isiah and Arianna; one sister-in-law, Delphine Swartzlander, of Florida; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Anna Mae and Luther Shemory and Phyllis and Paul Howell, all of Middleburg.
She was preceded in death by her son, William Eugene Fetter on July 6, 2002; one brother, Carson Swartzlander; daughter-in-law, Florence Elizabeth (Ettinger) Fetter; granddaughter, Linda K. Fetter; and two sisters, Kathryn Savidge and Judy Aikey.
Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Hummel’s United Methodist Church, 427 Sassafras Road, Middleburg where the funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Carvel K. May officiating.
Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King Street, Northumberland.
