Rev. James R. Hollenbaugh, 74, Milton

MILTON — Rev. James Ray Hollenbaugh, 74, of North Front St., since 1967, entered into rest and went to be with The Lord at 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at his home.

He was born Oct. 6, 1938, in Punxsutawney, the son of the late Charles Emerson and Mildred Belle (Neal) Hollenbaugh. On Sept. 30, 1960, he married the former Mary Margaret Stull, who survives.

James was a 1956 graduate of North High School in Youngstown, Ohio. In 1959, he graduated summa cum laude, and was valedictorian of his class at Zion Bible College, now Northpoint Bible College, in Haverhill, Mass.

In 1959 has pastored God’s House of Prayer church in Fowler, Ohio.

In 1960, he was ordained into the Free Gospel organization and taught at the Free Gospel Bible Institute, in Export, for seven years.

In September 1967, he moved to Milton and was ordained into the Assemblies of God and was appointed as pastor at the Milton Assembly of God church at 630 Lincoln St., Milton, where he served as pastor for 37 years until his retirement in 2004.

During his tenure there, he also served as treasurer and later as presbyter for the North-Central Section of the Pennsylvania-Delaware District of the Assemblies of God church.

He was an instructor and also on the board of regents at the former Youth Challenge International Bible Institute, in Sunbury, from 1973 to 1979.

During his time in Milton, he served the community in a number of ways. He volunteered as chaplain of the Fifth Ward Fire Department. He was on the Northumberland County Board of Elections for many years, serving as multiple roles including clerk, constable, and judge of elections. He was a member of the Milton Ministerium.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, he is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Curtis and Jennifer Hollenbaugh, of Lancaster, Camille Hollenbaugh Myer, of Lancaster, Dale Hollenbaugh, of Ocala, Fla. and his fiancé, Kriste Ruble, of Port Huron, Mich., and Mark Hollenbaugh, of Milton; eight grandchildren, Rachel Hollenbaugh, Reagan Hollenbaugh, Jenna Hollenbaugh, Jordan Hollenbaugh, Hayden Hollenbaugh, Isaiah Keen, Faith Keen, and Carolyn Keen, all of Lancaster; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Marilyn Hollenbaugh, of Warren, Ohio; and one brother-in-law, James Staudacher, of Boardman, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mildred Hollenbaugh; a sister, Leah Staudacher, and a daughter, Linda Ruth Hollenbaugh.

Family and friends are welcome to call at a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday and a memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, 47 Walnut St., Milton, with the Rev. Philip Bongiorno officiating.

Interment will be in Milton Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care of the Shaw Funeral Home, Milton.
