SUNBURY — Russell C. Beachell, 85, of Sunbury. passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Sunbury Community Hospital.
He was born in June 20, 1927, in Sunbury, a son of the late John and Violet (Lynch) Beachell.
Russell graduated from Sunbury High Sschool in 1945, where he was the center for the high school football team for the 43-44 and 44-45 teams and then went on to serve his country during WW II in the US Army.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church for more than 50 years.
Russell was an avid Penn State fan.
He loved doing yard work, woodworking and jigsaw puzzles. He was the oldest active living life member of the Americus Hose Co.
In his working career he worked in executive sales for Standard Brands Inc., Weis Food Service in sales, and a utility man for Phase One Graphics in Sunbury.
On March 9, 1947, he married Nannette M. Herold, who preceded him in death July 14, 2011.
Surviving are his children, Jeffrey A. and Tamara Beachell, of Berwick, and Melissa A. and Bill Rinehimer, of Holland; grandchildren Ryan A. Beachell, Megan A. and Wesley Michaels, and Carrie A. Rinehimer.
One sister preceded him in death Gladys Beachell.
Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to 10:24 a.m. Wednesday at the David T. Zweier Funeral Home Inc. , followed by the funeral at 10:30 with the Rev. Richard Fangmann, his pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Northumberland Memorial Park, Sunbury.
Family is accepting flowers, but contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society in Russell’s memory.
