MIDDLEBURG — Joseph M. Hunsberger, 87, of East Ridge Road, passed away at 6:50 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove, where he had been a guest for two months.
He was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Phoenixville, a son of the late Joseph J. and Mary (Guntz) Hunsberger. On Aug. 11, 1951, he married the former Verna H. Landes, who survives. The couple had lived in Snyder County for the past 44 years upon moving from Montgomery County.
Joseph’s life work was farming.
He was a member of the Boyer Mennonite Church, Middleburg, where he had served as a song leader, trustee, and was in charge of the cemetery.
Along with farming, Joseph enjoyed woodworking.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 61 years, are four sons and three daughters-in-law, James M. and Thelma Hunsberger, of Mount Pleasant Mills, David L. Hunsberger, of Floral City, Fla., Joseph A. and Rosa Hunsberger, and Dennis L. and Lori Hunsberger, all of Middleburg; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ruth Petershime, of Oley, Lois Yoder, of Souderton and Ada Geissinger, of Royersford.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Esther.
Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Boyer Mennonite Church, 1472 West Ridge Road, Middleburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mike Byler and his son, David Hunsberger, officiating.
Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
Contributions to honor Joseph’s memory may be made to the Boyer Mennonite Church.
