Elwood C. Flowers Sr., 85, Mount Pleasant Mills

MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS — Elwood C. “Woody” Flowers Sr., 85, of Mount Pleasant Mills, formerly of Manheim, entered into rest on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at the Harrisburg Hospital.

Elwood was born on June 15, 1927, in Bainbridge, Lancaster County, a son of the late Jacob Flowers and Evelyn Flowers-Boyd.On Feb. 10, 1945, he married the former Dorothy G. Schatz, who survives. His passing breaks a loving marital union of 68 years.

Elwood was engaged in farming and was a self-employed farm machinery dealer operating Elwood C. Flowers, Mount Pleasant Mills.

He was a member of Richfield Ambulance League, the Lancaster Farm Bureau, and the Pennsylvania Tractor Pullers Association.

Elwood enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending tractor pulls, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and great-great- grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Elwood is survived by his four children and their spouses, Mary M. Port-Adame and Ray, of Manheim, Elwood C. “Snooks” Flowers Jr. and Sheila, of Mount Joy, Richard C. Flowers and Sharon, of Liverpool (Oriental), and Judy A. Spickler and Carl, of Klingerstown; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; four stepgreat-grandchildren; one half brother, Robert “Bob” Boyd and his wife Wanda, of Mount Joy, one half sister, Effie Murphy and her husband Elmer, of Rheems; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elwood was preceded by his step father, Arthur Boyd; one son-in-law Paul Port; one grandson John Port; four brothers, Glenn, Melvin, Delbert “Delp” and James “Jim” Flowers; and one half brother Richard “Dick” Boyd.

Friends and family are invited to the visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2013, and again on from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2013, followed by the funeral at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc. 9366 Rt. 35, Mount Pleasant Mills. Officiating will be Pastor Dennis O’Brien and Pastor Wayne Kerstetter.

Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Mills.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in loving memory of “Woody” to the Richfield Ambulance League, PO Box 236, Richfield, Pa 17086; or to the American Heart Association, 1704 Warren Ave., Williamsport, PA 17701.
