SUNBURY — Charles E. Gaugler, 90, of Sunbury, passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Shamokin Dam, a son of the late Earl G. and Anna M. (Roush) Gaugler. On April 25, 1943, he married Anna Lou Kessler, who preceded him in death April 21, 2004.
He attended Selinsgrove School after which he went on to serve his country in the Army during World War II. Charles worked his career for the Pennsylvania Railroad, where he ran the Wreck Derrick on all the major train wrecks throughout the area. He retired in 1983. He was a life member of the Sunbury Eagles.
Surviving are his children, Robert F. and Elizabeth, of Shamokin Dam, and Peggy L. and Roy Raker, of Sunbury; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol E. Walter, and brothers Elvin, Clair, Gerald, and Donald.
Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:55 a.m. Monday at the David T. Zweier Funeral Home, Inc., 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral service at 11 with the Rev. Jonathan Albright, Susquehanna Charge, United Church of Christ, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Shreiner’s Church Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.
