James O. Herb, 72, Sunbury

SUNBURY — James O. Herb, 72, of Sunbury, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at his residence.

He was born in Sunbury on Nov.  20, 1940, a son of the late Howard and Fannie “Conrad” Herb. He married the former Esther Raker on Feb. 13, 1960, and she preceded him in death on July 13, 2006.

James was a retired heavy equipment operator, especially the crane, and retired in January of this year. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers.

He was a member of the Trinity Wesleyan Church, Sunbury.

James was a member of the Americus Hose Company and the Selinsgrove Moose Lodge.

He loved his Lord and the times he spent with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his dogs, Cole and Coke.

He was a great role model to his family.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, repairing his cars and general tinkering.

He is survived by five children and their spouses, Donna and LaRue Geiger, of Mifflinburg, Dennis and Leslie Herb, of Selinsgrove, Dawn Kalcich, of Sunbury, David and Cinderella Herb, of Sunbury and Dwane and Sally Herb, of Sunbury; a special friend, Pat McFall; 14 grandchildren, Mandy, Anthony, Tabitha, James, Bryant, Joel, Justin, Brandy, Sadie, Tad, Kealey, Kirstie, Tyler and Austin; seven great-grandchildren, Gaven, Steven, Kali, Derek, Keegan, Ryland and Liam; one sister, June Tressler, of Boiling Springs; and five brothers, Larue Herb, of Millersburg, Clarence Herb, of Sunbury, Claten Herb, of Sunbury, Charles”Butch” Herb, of Sunbury and Monroe Herb, of Sunbury.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Berniece Lucas; and four brothers, Sherwood, Raymond, Henry and Wendell.

A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday evening at the Trinity Wesleyan Church, 238 Walnut St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Interment will be in the Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to his church.
