MILTON — The Rev. Russell E. “Pop” Davis, 87, of 71 Muddy Run Road, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at his home. He was surrounded by his family.
He was born May 6, 1925, in Rensselaer, N.Y., a son of the late James and Jessie (Tilley) Davis.
He graduated from Allentown Bible Institute.
The Rev. Davis began his active ministry in 1946 after attending United Wesleyan College in Allentown. His pastorates included Brookdale; Grand Gorge, N.Y.; Oxford, Md.; an evangelistic ministry for three years; Glassboro, N.J.; Point Phillips; Bingen; and Milton. During the three years of evangelistic ministry, the Davises toured the eastern United States ministering in song and message. During his 21-year term of ministry in Milton, the Rev. Davis experienced four building projects, including a relocation from the South Front Street site of both the parsonage and church. The present sanctuary was constructed in 1970 followed by the construction of the parsonage in 1975. A classroom facility and fellowship hall were built in 1982 to serve the church and Meadowbrook Christian School, a ministry of Christ Wesleyan Church. The most recent building project included an educational building housing 10 classrooms and a library built to serve both the Sunday school classes as well as the Christian day school.
The Rev. Davis loved God first, adored his family and loved people. He thoroughly loved life with numerous enjoyments and interests including bowling, sailing, backpacking, hunting, power parachuting and cooking. The Rev. Davis loved music, loved to sing and enjoyed playing the guitar, ukulele, trumpet and piano. He was very computer savvy and loved any electronic gadgets. He was a “kid at heart” at any amusement park and loved playing board games.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Frances G. Pease Davis, whom he married Dec. 26, 1944. He also is survived by three sons, his first son, Russell Elvin Davis and his wife, Patty, of Milton, and his family, Russell E. Davis Jr. and wife Tammy, Clint Davis, the late Justin Lloyd, Judie Barlage and Bill; Lauren, Rebecca, William, Amie Bang; Riley and Jackson, Michael Davis and wife Ashley; Cassie, Breanna, Michael Jr., Michael Millett and wife Sarah; Gavin, Audrey, Hannah and Megan Davis; his second son, the Rev. Arlie E. Davis and his wife, Sharon, of Milton, and their children, Aidan and Adrienne; and his third son, Ralph Davis and his wife, Lisa, of New Columbia, Jared Davis, Wesley Davis, the late Breanna Davis, Courtney Haas and Kale and Blaine Haas and Adalynne; two sisters, Shirley Brown, of Maryland, and Jessie Seymour and her husband, Harold, of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Wesley Davis.
Relatives and friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Family Life Center of Christ Wesleyan Church, 363 Stamm Road, Miton, where the celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Dr. Harry F. Wood, former district superintendant of the Penn-Jersey District of the Wesleyan Church, officiating.
Burial will be private.
