Roger A. Boyer Sr., 82, Sunbury

SUNBURY — Roger A. Boyer Sr., 82, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at SUN Home Hospice Care Center in Sunbury.

He was born on Dec. 7, 1930, in Sunbury, a son of the late Edwin and Lottie (Zerbe) Boyer. On March 1, 1952, he married the former Betty J. Klock, who survives. His passing breaks a marital union of 61 years.

Roger was a farmer and also worked third shift at American Home Foods from 1955 until retiring in 1992. Roger loved farming, first working on his parents’ farm until purchasing his own farm in 1952. Roger’s legacy will be that of a hard-working husband and father dedicated to providing a good life for his wife and family. For 37 years, he would finish his shift at AHF only to come home and put in another full day raising beef cattle and tending his land. Roger and Betty taught their family the value of hard work and for that we are grateful.

In addition to his farming and spending time with his family, he loved riding his four-wheeler on his farm, attending public auctions, carnivals, amusement parks, parades and ice cream, which he ate before eating his meal. He was always tinkering in his garage, repairing and painting his many public sale purchases. Earlier in his life, Roger enjoyed traveling and family vacations, including camping in his many motor home purchases.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are seven children, including two daughters, Deborah Fultz, of Selinsgrove, and Jandell Boyer, of Shamokin Dam; five sons and daughters-in-law, Roger Jr. and Debra (Foulk) Boyer, Roderick and Amy (Walshaw) Boyer and Richard and Tracy (Knepp) Boyer, all of Sunbury; Ryan and Kelly (Jimison) Boyer and Randall and Tammy (Hartman) Boyer, of Selinsgrove; seven grandchildren, Jamie (Ryan) Snyder, Kelcey Kratzer, Jason, Erica, Rayce and Justin Boyer and Quinn Jimison-Boyer; three great-grandchildren, Paige and Payton Snyder and Emma Boyer; and one sister, June Pontius.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan; three brothers, Hunter, George and Charles Boyer; and two sisters, Nancy Boyer and Betty Walburn.

Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, when the funeral will follow at 11 with the Rev. Randall Bennett Jr. officiating.

Burial will follow in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Roger’s memory may be made to SUN Home Hospice Care Center, P.O. Box 232, Northumberland, PA 17857.
