SELINSGROVE — Audrey J. Swope, 82, of Grayson View Court, passed away there at 1:49 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012.
She was born March 30, 1930, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Daniel J. and Geraldine (Haupt) Bickel. She was married to J. Russell Swope, who preceded her in death in 2008.
Audrey was a 1948 graduate of Selinsgrove High School.
As a young adult, Audrey was employed at Real French Cleaners. She then worked for many years in collaboration with her first husband, J. Robert Sholley, and his brother, Chick, helping to run the family’s operation of the Dutch Kitchen Restaurant, the Mobil Gas Station and Shaffer’s Motel, all in the “Independence” area of Port Trevorton. Later, she assisted her second husband, Russ, in the operation of the Golden Arrow Motel and Restaurant in Shamokin Dam.
Audrey was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church, Selinsgrove.
She enjoyed bingo and playing cards with her many friends while at Grayson View and was an avid shopper and QVC customer. Audrey loved nice clothes and had a great sense of humor, and she truly cared for people and their concerns. She was a friend of many and knew how to in turn be a good friend. She was a devoted mother who dearly loved her children and her granddogs.
Audrey is survived by one daughter, Janice C. Jones, of Harrisburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Craig R. Sholley and wife Lisa Stevens, of Highland, Md.; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Phyllis and John Regester, of Richfield, and Doris Bickel, of Lewisburg.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda S. Sholley, in 2008; her first husband, J. Robert Sholley, in 1997; and one son-in-law, Stephen J. Jones.
Friends and family will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, followed by a memorial service at 11 with the Rev. Wayne C. Muthler officiating.
Burial will be in Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.
