Melissa L. Pangburn, 13, Shamokin

— SHAMOKIN — Melissa Lee “Missy” Pangburn, 13, of 5 S. Rock St., was taken by angels into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at her home.

Missy was born in Woodbury, N.J., on Aug. 7, 2000, a daughter of Barbara Ann Wiley, of Shamokin, and David “Paul” Pangburn III, of Pennsville, N.J. She had lived in Shamokin since 2011.

Missy was in the seventh grade at Shamokin Area Junior-Senior High School. An excellent student, she attained honors status every school year and continued that accomplishment as an honor student this year.

Missy was smart, beautiful, full of energy and very confident in herself. With those attributes, she was able to accomplish many things in her short life. Among the many things Missy loved in life, the greatest were her family, friends and school.

She also excelled and enjoyed drawing, making bracelets for her family and friends, listening to music and dancing. She had fun riding roller coasters, her favorite being the Twister at Knoebels Amusement Park in Elysburg.

She had no fear in attempting what others thought of as impossible, and she would always succeed. Missy knew every problem could be solved. She had an ever-present smile on her face and would always see the good in people. A strong-willed young woman, she would get through the tough times and would be there for anyone in their time of need. If it meant having a cry session, then so be it.

Missy’s favorite foods were spaghetti and Tostitos with spinach dip. Her mother believes in her heart and says, “Missy is an angel now, and Heaven got a lot stronger. She will be very missed. Love you, Baby Girl.” Her father added that he “loves her with all his heart and treasured the time he spent with her, and even though miles may have separated them, Missy was always in his thoughts.”

Missy is survived by her loving, close-knit family, including her mother and stepfather, Barbara Ann Wiley and Joseph “Wes” Vecchio, with whom she lived on Rock Street and now living at 230 S. Coal St., Shamokin, PA 17872; father and his common-law wife, David “Paul” Pangburn III and Shannon Land, of 27 Beaver Ave., Pennsville, NJ 08070; six siblings, a nine-month-old sister, Meadow Vecchio, and 16-year-old brother, Jonathan Wiley, with whom she lived in Shamokin, and a 5-year-old-brother, Ziggy Pangburn, a 7-year-old sister, Abigail Pangburn, a 14-year-old brother, Maxxwell Pangburn, and a 15-year-old sister, Sarah Pangburn, all of Westville, N.J.; maternal grandfather, Angelo Marti, of Millville, N.J.; paternal grandparents, Deborah Jones, of Pennsville, N.J., and David Pangburn Jr., of Brook Haven, Pa.; paternal great-grandparents, Robert and Jean Romansky, of Pennsville, N.J., and David Sr. and Shirley Pangburn, of Bridgeton, N.J.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death three months ago by her maternal grandmother, Rose Marti.

Family members and friends will be received noon to 2 Saturday at the Shamokin Area Junior-Senior High School auditorium, 2000 W. State St., Coal Township. A religious funeral service will begin at 2 in the auditorium with the Rev. David Butler, pastor of Bethel Union Chapel, officiating.

The family is being assisted by the James Kelley Funeral Home, James F. Kelley, director, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township.
