Harold O. Kessler, 89, Orangeville

— ORANGEVILLE — Harold O. Kessler, 89, of Route 254, died Thursday morning, Dec. 19, 2013, at the Orangeville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where he had been a resident since Dec. 9.

Born Jan. 6, 1924, in Greenwood Township, he was a son of the late Nelson and Mary (Watts) Kessler. He and his wife, Evanna C. (Litwhiler) Kessler, celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on Aug. 17.

Harold attended the Greenwood School and then for 17 years had worked for Long Acres Dairy in Boyertown. He also had his own farm in the 1950s. He was a partner and co-founder of L&K Mills, of Benton, from which he retired in the mid 1970s. Harold also transported the Amish back and forth to various places including Lancaster and New York. He was also well known as a vendor for various area flea markets including Bloomsburg, Lewisburg, and Hometown.  

Mr. Kessler was a very active and long time member of Jackson Baptist Church where he had served on the church board, was a deacon, taught Sunday School and served on various committees. He was a former member of the Gideon Society.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Evanna, are his two children, Kenneth H. Kessler, at home, and Jennifer S. Kessler, of Mechanicsville, Va.; one grandson, Corey Kessler; and one brother, Howard Kessler and his wife Bess, of Burleston, Texas.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Herman Kessler.

A time of visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton, where the funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Walter E. Minto Jr. officiating.  

Burial will be in Lemons Cemetery, Greenwood Township.
