PORT TREVORTON — Robert D. “Dewey” DeWitt, 58, of Port Trevorton, entered into rest on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at his home.
Robert was born April 30, 1955, in New Brunswick, N.J., a son of the late Jack E. and Fay B. (Shaffer) DeWitt. He was married for 18 years to the former Victoria A. Mengle, who survives.
He was a 1974 graduate of Middleburg Joint High School.
Robert enjoyed Harley-Davidson motorcycles and NASCAR and was a fan of Jimmy Johnson, spending time on the computer and enjoyed drinking Coca-Cola and eating Middleswarth potato chips.
In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his son, Logan Mengle, and his girlfriend, Amber Griffin, of Port Trevorton; one sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Ronald Hoffman, of Mount Pleasant Mills; his mother-in-law, Faye Mengle, of Mount Pleasant Mills; a niece, Jennifer Troutman, and her husband, Brian, of Mount Pleasant Mills; a nephew, Andrew Hoffman, and his wife, Monaca, of Mount Pleasant Mills; a great-niece, Hannah Fultz; several generations of nieces and nephews; his brothers and sisters-in-law; his uncle, Tom Shaffer, and his wife, Ruthann, of Millersburg; and his favorite pets, Molly, Petie and Buddy.
Robert was preceded by his sister, Ann Swope; father-in-law, Glenn Mengle; and his special pets, Bo and Max.
There will be no viewing. Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Aline United Methodist Church, Aline Church Road, Mount Pleasant Mills, followed by a memorial service at 3 with Pastor Debra J. Dailey officiating.
Burial will be private at the discretion of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that monetary memorial gifts be sent to the funeral home. The George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
