YORK – Jacqueline (Gower) Bowman, 82, of York, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013, at York Hospital. She was the widow of John D. Bowman Jr.
She was born Nov. 22, 1930, in Sunbury, the daughter of the late Jenny E. (Fisher) and George A. Gower Jr.
Jacqueline was a 1948 graduate of Selinsgrove High School and a graduate of St. Luke’s School of Nursing, New York City, as a registered nurse.
She was employed by Methodist Hospital, Peoria, Ill., Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring, Md., York Hospital and the Brunswick at Longstown. She was a member of Harrisburg Forest 43, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Cedarettes; the ladies auxiliaries of both the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Marine Corps League; and the White Rose Square Dance Club.
Jacqueline was an avid bingo player and reader and enjoyed traveling and taking cruises.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Elizabeth F. and Jerard Brune, of Naperville, Ill., M. Jo Bowman-Ruth, of Manchester, and Jill A. and Maurice Manifold, of New Park; one son and daughter-in-law, John D. III and Stephanie Bowman, of Canton; four grandchildren, Heather J. Russo, Holly J. Brune, John B. Bowman IV and James A. Bowman; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Emily E. McCleary, and a brother, George A. Gower III.
A celebration of life tribute service will be held at the convenience of the family. Private burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery.
The Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, is in charge of arrangements.
