Margaret K. “Maggie” Loss, 87, New Berlin

— NEW BERLIN — Margaret K. “Maggie” (Cornelius) Loss, 87, of 500 Hazel St., passed away Sunday afternoon, May 5, 2013, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg.

She was born April 17, 1926, in New Berlin, a daughter of the late George Robert and Esther (Wetzel) Cornelius. On July 20, 1947, she married Lamar D. Loss Sr. at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Berlin. He died on April 18, 1993, breaking a marital union of 45 years. They had one son, Lamar D. Loss Jr., who preceded her in death on July 19, 2009.

She was a 1944 graduate of Lewisburg High School.

Margaret was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, Middleburg office, for 30 years. She also served two years as the postmaster in New Berlin.

Margaret was a very active member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she played the organ and sang in the choir. She also taught Sunday school and directed the youth choir for many years.

Following her years of employment, she volunteered at Evangelical Community Hospital and drove for USTA.

Margaret was well known in the town of New Berlin. She enjoyed playing cards and helping with community events. She had a great sense of humor and affectionately called others “whippersnapper.”

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Libby Loss, of Mifflinburg, and her grandchildren and their spouses, Kiersten and Brian Harrington, of Horsham, Jed and Elizabeth Loss and Janelle and Seth Hicks, all of New Berlin, and Kortney and Nathan McBryan, of Lewisburg; and six great-grandchildren, Leah, Paige, Calen, Colbie, Connor and Ava.

Besides her husband and son, Margaret was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Cornelius, and his wife, Helen; a sister, Marion; and two brothers who died in infancy.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, 308 Market St., New Berlin, with the Rev. Andrew Fitch and the Rev. Robert Logan officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 2 to 3 at the church.

Interment will be in New Berlin Cemetery.
