LEWISBURG — April May (Showers) Koonsman, 63, of 107 S. Apple St., passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the home of her son.
She was born Oct. 9, 1949, in Sunbury, a daughter of Ada L. (Beaver) Showers, of Lewisburg and the late Lee R. Showers. On April 26, 1969, she married Chester R. Koonsman, who preceded her in death Feb. 12, 2010. Together they celebrated 40 years of marriage.
April was a graduate of Lewisburg High School. She previously worked at the former Milton Shoe Factory, Chef-Boy-Ar-Dee, now ConAgra, Milton, the former Weller Vending, Shamokin and Evangelical Community Hospital, where she worked in the kitchen. In 2002 she retired from Bucknell University, having worked in catering services.
April was a member of Christ Wesleyan Church, Milton.
She enjoyed cooking, crafting and gardening. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family.
Surviving in addition to her mother are one son and daughter-in-law, Michael R. and Tammy R. Koonsman, of Northumberland; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David L. and Karen Showers, of Dry Valley and Robert R. and Deborah Showers, of Mifflinburg; one sister, Susan M. Showers, of Mifflinburg; three grandchildren, Katie Swartzlander, of Mifflinburg, Cheyenne Walburn and Aaron Koonsman, both of Northumberland; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her father and husband, she was predeceased by one brother, James Michael Showers.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with her minister, Pastor Bud Rutherford, officiating.
Burial will follow in Lewisburg Cemetery.
