SUNBURY — Joseph E. Baranoski, 82, of Manor Care Health Services for the past four years, formerly of Trevorton, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born March 11, 1931, in Shamokin, a son of the late Edward and Mary (Kurtz) Baranoski. On Sept. 17, 1960, in St. Patrick Church, Trevorton, he married the former Helen R. Novicenskie who survives.
He was a 1950 graduate of Shamokin High School and served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 stationed in Germany.
Early in life, Joe worked as a auto mechanic at the former Crash Auto Works, Trevorton and the former Anthracite Garage, Trevorton. Joe retired as a mechanic after 25 years with UPS.
He was a member of St. Patrick Church, Trevorton, the Kulpmont American Legion and a life member of the Trevorton American Legion Post 92, the Trevorton Fire Company, the Goodwill Hose Co., Sunbury and the Zerbe Rod & Gun Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Tina Baranoski, of Atlas, and Gary and Penny Baranoski, of Newville; three grandchildren, Ryan, Kyle and Nathan Baranoski; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Baranoski, and one sister, Bernadine Baranoski.
A visitation with the family will be held from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Church, 331 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, where a memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 with Rev. Adrian Gallagher as celebrant.
Burial with military honors will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Trevorton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe’s memory may be made to St. Patrick Church, Memorial Fund, 331 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, PA 17881.
