MECHANICSBURG — Ruth Amerman Messner, 68, of Mechanicsburg, passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 6, 2013, in Holy Spirit Hostpital, Camp Hill, after battling a long illness.
She was born Feb. 25, 1945, in Sunbury, the daughter of the late George Monroe and Dorothy (Schuck) Amerman. On May 18, 1968, she married Edward M. Messner, who survives.
She was a 1963 graduate of Sunbury High School and received her bachelor of science degree from Bucknell University and her master’s from Bloomsburg University.
After teaching for a few years, she took a break and had three children. After happily raising them for several years, she returned to teaching and most recently taught at the Green Ridge Elementary School, retiring in 2009.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Kathleen Kane and husband Bryan, of Allentown, Krista Messner, of Mechanicsburg, and Kurt Messner, of Wilmington, Del.; three grandchildren; and one brother, George Franklin Amerman, of Sunbury.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 21, in Silver Spring Presbyterian Church, 444 Silver Spring Road, Mechanicsburg.
Interment will take place privately in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make contributions to the Green Ridge Library, 1 Green Ridge Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050, in memory of Ruth touching the lives of so many children during her teaching career.
Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
