James T. Connolley, 82, Danville

DANVILLE — James T. Connolley, 82,  of Mateo Drive, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his family.  

He was born Sept. 30, 1930, in Danville, a son of the late James P. and Margaret (Gerringer) Connolley.

Jim was an Eagle Scout and was the camp bugler for many years at Camp Lavigne in Benton. He attended Mount Saint Mary’s College before entering the military. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army at Camp Rucker, Alabama.

After his service, he worked at the family business, Connolley Sales, Inc., a wholesale food business. He was a lifelong musician, playing trombone in the Danville Boys and Girls Band, the U.S. Military Band, and the Danville American Legion Band. Jim was a Montour County Commissioner for two non-consecutive terms (including a term during the Agnes Flood in 1972). He was a founding member of Geisinger Authority. James was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Church, where he was a eucharistic minister, altar server and church bus driver.

He was an instrument rated private pilot and owned several aircraft throughout his lifetime. James was proud of his recent academic achievements, in 2005, he graduated from Bloomsburg University with a bachelor of science in communications.  

He is survived by his wife, the former Judy Clossen; three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve Connolley and Kay Boyles, of Lewisburg, Jim and Raye Connolley, of Virginia, and Kevin and Patricia Connolley, of North Carolina; one daughter, Eileen Connolley, of Connecticut; one stepdaughter, Julie Dent, of Danville; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Joan Connolley, of Allentown; one sister, Alice Mazich, of Latrobe; one sister-in-law, Carole Connolley, of Bloomsburg; and his beloved companions, Bud and Buffy.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Agnes Brady; one daughter, Ann Marie Connolley; one stepson, Jeff Dent; and one brother, Richard Connolley.

Friends will be received from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday in St. Huberts Chapel, in the annex of St. Joseph Church, 18 E. Center St., Danville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be con celebrated at 11 with his nephew, the Rev. Edward Mazich and the Rev. Michael Laicha.

The burial will follow the Mass in the parish cemetery.  

The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions in James’ memory may be made to Geisinger Hospice, c/o Geisinger Medical Center, 100 N. Academy Ave., Danville, PA 17822.
