Michael Philip Hahn, 63, Ashburn, Va.

ASHBURN, Va. — Michael Philip Hahn, 63, of Ashburn, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2013, at his home following a year-long battle with brain cancer.

He was born and raised in Lancaster, Pa., a son of Helen A. Hahn and the late William C. Hahn.

Michael graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School in 1967 and received a bachelor of science degree in education from Duquesne University in 1971. In 1976, he was awarded a master’s degree in business administration from the College of William and Mary. He was a veteran of the Army, where he served as a captain in the Military Police Corps from 1971 to 1978.

On Aug. 10, 1974, he married Judith Ann Schmidt and was faithfully married to her until she died on Dec. 25, 2008. Their marriage was a wonderful one, and they raised three children, Matthew, of Pittsburgh, Pa., Kathryn, of Alexandria, Va., and Andrew, of Fairfax, Va.

Michael retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a supervisory special agent in June 2001 after 23 years of service. During his career with the bureau, he served in the Cincinnati, New York and Philadelphia divisions and retired from FBI headquarters. Following his career in the FBI, he was employed as a director in the Security Department of the NASDAQ Stock Market and later served as vice president and director of operations at MVM Inc. He later founded ExFed Investigations LLC and performed contract and consulting work for the federal government and private entities.

He was a member of American Legion Post 56 and the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI. He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Ashburn, where he served as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion. Before his illness, he was a volunteer for Evercare Hospice.

In addition to his mother and children, he is survived by his siblings, Mary Kuziel and husband Robert, of Ellicott City, Md., Thomas Hahn and wife Diane, of Ford City, Pa., Stephen Hahn and wife Patty, of Reading, Pa., and Father Peter Hahn, of Lancaster, Pa.

A sister, Andrea Sophia, preceded him in death.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St., Herndon, Va., with the Rite of the Christian vigil service and recitation of the Holy Rosary at 8, and from 11 to noon Friday in St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Ashburn, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon with the Rev. Peter I. Hahn as celebrant.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Quantico National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Amigos de Jesus Orphanage in Honduras, 118 Woodland Ave., Malvern, PA 19355 (http://www.amigosdejesus.org/), or the Brad Kaminsky Foundation for Brain Tumor Research, 20227 Catlett Place, Ashburn, VA 20147 (http://www.tbkf.org/).
