Orvis R. Rockey Jr., 87, New Columbia

— NEW COLUMBIA — Orvis R. Rockey Jr., 87, of 449 Old Rt. 15, passed away Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

He was born May 22, 1926, in Centre County, a son of Orvis R. Sr. and Edna May (Lockhart) Rockey.

Orvis was a decorated WWII Army Veteran and retired from American Home Food.

He loved wood working, old cars and John Deere tractors.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Marion R. Meixel and brothers, Clifford and John.

Orvis is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Orvis R. III“Skip”and Maureen, of Milton, Steve L. and Judy, of Milton, Ronald C. of Indiana and Herman L. “Dutch” and Joan, of Watsontown; three daughters and sons-in-law, Irene K. “Reanie” and Stephen Byers, of Lewisburg, Darlene E. “Dee” and Terry Hess, of New Columbia, and Virginia L. and Michael VonNeida, of Beaver Springs; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Barbara and Jerry Barner Inhoof and Marjorie Myers, both of Milesburg; thirteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Spitler Funeral Home 733 Broad St., Montoursville, followed by the funeral at 11 with Pastor Butch Woosley officiating.

Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park.
