Sara Jean Moyer, 84, Northumberland

NORTHUMBERLAND — Sara Jean Moyer, 84, of Northumberland, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, in Nottingham Village, Northumberland, where she had lived since July 2009 after suffering a stroke.

She was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Bloomsburg, the daughter of the late Patsy and Sarah K. (Wolfe) Marotto and Marvin Whitenight. In 1948, she married Allen A. Moyer, who preceded her in death in 1992.

She was a 1947 graduate of Northumberland High School.

For most of her life, Sara was a homemaker.

Sara enjoyed the outdoors, especially feeding the birds and the squirrels. She loved to sew, and in her younger years, she made many of her own clothes. Her favorite activity was bingo. Sara treasured the stories of her youth and liked to tell of the antics of her and her two brothers, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She took great pride in their activities and adorned her person with their photos. Her family shares in her quick wit, sense of humor and good nature, which she possessed right up until her departure.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Katharine and Michael Heckert Sr., of Northumberland; four grandchildren, Joseph Davis Jr. and wife Erin, of Northumberland, Michael Heckert Jr. and wife Hayli, of Idaho, Harrison Heckert and Kelsi-Quinn Miller, of Northumberland; one great-grandson, Michael Henry Heckert, of Idaho; one brother, Ronald Whitenight, of Shamokin Dam; one sister-in-law, Ann Whitenight, of Mechanicsburg; and three nieces and four nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence “Sonny” Whitenight, in November.

In keeping with her simple lifestyle, there will be no visitation or funeral services. Her cremains will join her brother’s at the old homestead in Northumberland.

Lawrence Welk song:

“Goodnight, goodnight, until we meet again,

“Adios, Au Revoir, Auf Wiedersehn ’til then,

“And though it’s always sweet sorrow to part,

“You know you’ll always remain in my heart,

“Goodnight, sleep tight, and pleasant dreams to you,

“Here’s a wish and a prayer that every dream comes true,

“And now ’til we meet again,

“Adios, Au Revoir, Auf Wiedersehn.”

Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 309 Water St., Northumberland.
