Jane McCormick Brouse, 85, Watsontown

WATSONTOWN — Jane McCormick Brouse, 85, of Watsontown, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Watsontown Health and Rehabilitation, where she had lived for three years.

She was born May 24, 1927, at her family home on Elm Street, Watsontown, a daughter of the late Albert Allen and Emma Reitz (Leiser) McCormick. She was married to Kenneth W. Brouse for 47 years before his death in 2010.

A graduate of Watsontown High School, she worked in the accounting office of the former Philco Corp. for 23 years.

She was an active member from birth at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Watsontown, having served on the church council and other committees. She was instrumental in bringing about the rebuilding of the original Hook and Hastings pipe organ in 1994.

Jane was an accomplished soprano soloist, having begun her singing career at the age of 5. She was a member of her church choir for more than 60 years and participated in and was soloist for several choral groups in the area.

She was a member and past president of the Watsontown Guild, Watsontown High School Alumni Association, the Watsontown High School Class of 1945 and the Philco Corp. Alumni Banquet Committee. She was a member and executive officer of the Lewisburg Christian Women’s Club, both Monday and Tuesday After Five groups, as well as the Tuesday Luncheon Group held each month at the Country Cupboard restaurant.

Jane was an avid reader and a published writer and was known for her creation of knitted and crocheted items as well as other handiwork.

She is survived by one daughter, Judith L. Herald, of Watsontown; three granddaughters, Jennifer L. Herald, of Northumberland, Rebecca J. Schwartz, of Sykesville, and Melissa A. Rodgers, of Dover Plains, N.Y.; and one brother, Harold L. McCormick, of St. Charles, Mo.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, George W. (2001), John A. (2004) and Robert S. McCormick (1994); two sisters, Dartha D. McCormick Keefer (1994) and Gerotha McCormick Young (2006); and one son-in-law, Robert A. Herald (2000).

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family in the Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main St., Watsontown, with burial following in Mazeppa Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association “in memory of Jane McCormick Brouse,” P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090.
