TREVORTON — Bernard T. “Bernie” Schwartz Sr., 70, of 100 E. Coal St., passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at his residence. He was in ailing health past five months.
He was born in Trevorton on Dec. 10, 1942, a son of the late Theodore G. and Jean (Dudeck) Schwartz. Bernie was married on June 7, 1969, in St. Edwards Church, Shamokin, to the former Linda A. Bielskie who survives.
He was a lifetime resident of Trevorton. He attended Trevorton High School.
Bernie retired after 30 years working as a repairman and breaker operator for The New Saint Nicholas Coal Breaker, Duncott.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Trevorton.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandson. Bernie’s hobbies were raising and racing pigeons and also raising exotic birds. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting with his Beagles.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one son and daughter-in-law, Bernard “Bernie” Schwartz Jr. and wife Lori, of Hunter Station; one grandson, Colton Schwartz; two brothers, Ronald Schwartz and wife Jeanne, of Millersburg, and Donald Schwartz, of Trevorton; and one sister, Donna Lebo and husband David, of Trevorton.
A time of visitation will be held from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 331 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Adrian Gallagher officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bernie’s memory may be made to the Trevorton Ambulance Fund, 626 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, PA 17881.
