ENDWELL, N.Y. — Jean Lawton Funk, 96, of Endwell, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013.
She was a daughter of the late George and Leah Lawton.
Jean graduated from Millville High School, Millville, Pa., and Bloomsburg University, with additional coursework at Penn State and Bucknell universities.
She began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Pennsylvania and continued teaching in Pennsylvania for 13 years. She retired in 1980 from the Maine-Endwell School District as an elementary teacher. She was a member of Endwell United Methodist Church, the Deborah Circle, NYSRTA, and the Western Broome RTA, Eastern Star of Waterloo, N.Y.
She loved her family and friends and teaching associates. She also loved bowling, bridge, golfing, camping and church activities.
She is survived by her son, Roger L. Funk, of Moreno Valley, Calif.; brother-in-law, Dr. Joseph Simington, of Berwick, Pa.; brother-in-law, Dr. Fred Gilmartin, of Sarasota, Fla.; a niece, Susan Long and husband Kenneth, of Michigan; a nephew, Fred Gilmartin and wife Lori, of Bethlehem, Pa.; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bryan L. Funk, and three sisters, Audrey Gilmartin, Louise Simington and an infant sister, Mary.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home Inc., 300 E. Main St., Endicott, N.Y., where the funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday with her pastor, the Rev. Jan Marsi, officiating.
Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endwell.
