MILTON — Ardella M. Perko, 82, of Center Street, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at the Emmanuel Nursing Center, Danville.
She was born Feb. 20, 1931, in Shumantown, Beaver Township, a daughter of the late Charles and Esther (Schell) Gottstein. She was fostered by the late Dennis and Mildred Kowalski, of Bloomsburg. On Feb. 2, 1952, Ardella married William Perko, who preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 1992.
Ardella was a 1949 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
She worked as a licensed practical nurse at the Gold Star Nursing Home in Milton.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Milton.
Ardella enjoyed cooking and baking. She had her doctorate in mothering with a Ph.D in kindness. She was greeted at the Rainbow Bridge by Muffy and Alfie and will be greatly missed by Paris Hilton and Tarkus. Ardella will be fondly remembered for creating a home filled with love, laughter and an open door policy.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Perko and wife Sandy, of Watsontown, and Dennis Perko and life partner, Mary Wieland, of Milton; two daughters, Michelle Fisher, of Sunbury, and Mary Voorhees and husband Robert, of New Jersey; one sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Fred Stein, of Wapwallopen; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
Ardella was preceded in death by one son, David Perko, and four brothers, Clair, John and Allen Schell and Irving Burlingame.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Church, 109 Broadway, Milton, with the Rev. John D. Hoke as celebrant.
Burial will be in Elan Memorial Park, Bloomsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ardella’s memory may be made to the SPCA, 2801 Bloom Road, Danville, PA 17821.
