Beverly M. Phillips, 84, New Columbia

— NEW COLUMBIA — Beverly M. Phillips, 84, of Number 10 Road, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at her home.

She was born Dec. 18, 1928, in Danville, a daughter of the late Verdilla Russell and J. Lowrie Moore. She was married to Harold L. Phillips on September 3, 1948 and recently celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage.

Beverly was a 1946 graduate of Milton High School and attended Bucknell University where she majored in music.  

She sang in several local choirs and taught piano lessons to young children in the McEwensville area.

She was a very active member of Paradise United Church of Christ, Milton and served on the Church and Ministry Committee for the Central Association of Pennsylvania Central Conference of the United Church of Christ. Beverly was a former member of the Watsontown Presbyterian Church.

A member of the Watsontown Chapter 282, Order of the Eastern Star, she was a past worthy matron and served as their organist from the time she was installed in 1975 until 2011. She was a member of the Senior Women’s Club of Milton, past president of the Milton Junior Women’s Club and Trustee of the Devitt House, Lewisburg.

She worked side by side with her husband on the farm and also enjoyed tending to her flowers, working in the vegetable garden and playing cards with their friends.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four daughters and son-in-laws, Carolyn Herman and Connie and Greg Aucker, all of New Columbia, Cynthia and John Lindner, of Columbus, N.J., and Cathy and Curtis White, of Falmouth, Maine; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Louise Moore, of Watsontown, and Richard and Rita Moore, of Lebanon; one sister and brother-in-law, Priscilla and Alan Greiss, of Whitehall; and two sister-in-laws, Doris Phillips, of Danville and Virginia Moore, of Watsontown; she faithfully followed her eight grandchildren whether in sporting events or music concerts and delighted in the lives of her six great-grandchildren.  

Beverly was preceded in death by one brother, William R. Moore.

In keeping with her wishes there will be no public viewing. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Paradise United Church of Christ, 8105 Paradise Road, Milton, with Pastor Doug Schader officiating.  

A private burial will take place in the Paradise Cemetery.

The family will provide flowers and suggest contributions in Beverly’s memory be made to the Paradise United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 252, Milton, PA 17847.
