Samuel C. Walker Jr., 92, Jamison

— JAMISON — Samuel C. Walker Jr., of Jamison, died peacefully on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, surrounded by his four loving daughters at Doylestown Hospital. He was 92.

He was born Dec. 26, 1920, on the family farm in Johnsville. He was a son of the late Samuel C. and Sara (Conard) Walker. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Samuel, his sister, Jennie Walker, and his brother, Clarence N. Walker, of Warminster.

He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret “Peg” Moore Walker, the love of his life, whom he married on Oct. 20, 1951.

Sam was a graduate of Upper Southampton High School, Class of 1939. He started playing baseball while in junior high and continued long after graduation, playing on several minor league teams throughout the tri-state area, as well as being scouted by the Athletics.

His love of farming was passed down through four generations and continued throughout his lifetime while maintaining Pine Knoll Farm, in which he had taken much pride since 1951.

Sam also drove a school bus for the Centennial and Central Bucks school districts for many years and was appointed head custodian for Tamanend Junior High School, a position he held for many years until his retirement in 1989.

He had an ear for music and could play the piano, organ and harmonica. Sam entertained the Conard Family Reunion for 77 consecutive years by playing several selections on the harmonica, a highlight at each reunion.

He will be sadly missed not only by his loving family but also by all those he befriended during his lifetime.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted daughters and their families, Peggy Shipe and her husband, Ray. C., of Sunbury, Betsy Karl and her husband, William, of Jamison, Sandy Fetterman and her husband, Harold, of Sunbury and Kimberly Walker, of Jamison. Sam also is survived by his eight loving grandchildren, Jennifer, Megan and Madison Shipe, Lindsay, Lauren and Billy Karl and Jeffrey and Stacey Fetterman Brown, and two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Audrina Knoebel.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road at Holland Road, Richboro. Private graveside services will be held on Friday for the immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 5455 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43214, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
