Gary E. “Grizz” Auten, 67, Kreamer

— KREAMER — Gary E. “Grizz” Auten, 67, passed away peacefully at 1:35 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at his home.

He was born May 29, 1946, in Kelly Township, Union County, a son of the William S. and Marian Maize Auten. He was married to the former Barbara A. Yerger Landis who survives.

Gary was a 1964 graduate of Lewisburg High School. Following his graduation he entered the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He was discharged in 1968 with the rank of corporal.

He had been employed by Poloron Homes, Middleburg, Carl Good Construction, Middleburg, and retired from Wood Mode, Kreamer.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Kreamer, a life member of the Snyder County Sportsman Club, a member of the Marine Corps League, the American Legion, Post 25, and VFW Post 6631, both of Selinsgrove, LOOM Lodge 1229, Middleburg, the Union County Sportsman Club, and the Disabled American Veterans.

Gary was well known for establishing the Bunkhouse in Kreamer where he taught line and couple dancing. He was the first in the area to have kid’s night line dancing. He also deejay’d at country line dances and hosted jam sessions and also managed the Country Gold Dancers. He will be remembered for his patriotism and the displaying of  Marine Corps flags, statues and memorabilia. Grizz was very proud of his grandchildren. He enjoyed family parties at the Bunkhouse, shooting pool, his corvette, and sprint cup races in Florida. Earlier in his life he enjoyed Bass fishing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four stepsons and their spouses, Arden and Judy Landis, of Kreamer, Andy and Amy Landis, Anthony and Cher Landis, and Alan Landis and friend Tammy, all of rural Middleburg; 10 grandchildren, Corey, Ashley, Eddie, Bowie, Seger, Frankie and wife, Lisa, Samantha, Alexandra, Austin, and Jaden; three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Landen and Karlei; one sister, Diana Weikel, of Lewisburg; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Roy Yerger Jr., Raymond “Mort” and Linda Yerger, Sharon and Jim Stine, and Donald and Cindy Yerger; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one niece, Nicole Weikel; and two sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and Ken Thomas, and Nancy Yerger.

Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Amanda K. Range officiating.

Burial with military honors accorded by the Susquehanna Valley Marine Corps League Detachment 308 will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Selinsgrove.

Contributions may be made in Gary’s memory to St. Peters Lutheran Church Youth Program Fund, Kreamer, PA 17833.
