— WATSONTOWN — Miriam I. Harmon, 81, of Dans Lane, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at SUN Home Hospice Care Center, Sunbury.

She was born Jan. 27, 1932, in West Chillisquaque Township, the daughter of the late Arthur A. and Beulah I. (Belles) Guffey. On May 12, 1951, she married Daniel W. Harmon Sr., who survives. They celebrated 62 years of marriage together.

Miriam was a 1950 graduate of Milton High School.

She was employed by McCormick’s Cleaners for 15 years until 1984.

Miriam helped in the building of her home on Dans Lane. She lived the first 10 years of her life on the farm of her grandparents, William and Laura Belles, near Montandon, before moving to Shakespeare Avenue, Milton. She loved the farming life and spoke of it often.

She enjoyed cooking, listening to music, especially Lawrence Welk, word search books, the soap opera “As the World Turns” and all of the family pets over the years. Miriam was a devoted wife and mother. She was a great cook, and her family will especially miss her lattice and crumb-topped cherry and black raspberry pies. She will be missed by all who knew her, including her cat, Squeeky.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Daniel W. Jr. and Debra Harmon, of Watsontown; one daughter, Donna Jean Harmon, of Watsontown; stepgrandchildren and spouses, Nicole and Richard Huey III, of Fort Hood, Texas, Joshua and Kim Criswell, of Milton, and Megan and Dan Zettlemoyer II, of Turbotville; stepgreat-grandchildren, Mercedes, Autumn and Daniel Zettlemoyer and Nicholas and Nathaniel Huey; and several nieces and nephews, including Pauline Johnson, who was a wonderful caregiver to Miriam.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur F. Guffey.

A private burial will take place in Watsontown Cemetery at the convenience of the family. No visitation.

The family will provide flowers and suggests contributions in Miriam’s memory be made to SUN Home Health and Hospice, 61 Duke St., Northumberland, PA 17857, or Montandon Baptist Church, 257 Main St., Montandon, PA 17850.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main St., Watsontown.
