SUNBURY — Joyce J. Earl, 88, of Sunbury, and formerly of Howard, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at Sunbury Community Hospital.
Born on Jan. 3, 1925, in Moravia, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Carlton and Mary (Wilson) Jennings. She was married July 1, 1950, to Harold L. Earl, who preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 1999.
Joyce was a 1943 graduate of Moravia High School in upstate New York and a 1947 graduate of Cortland State University. She attended Mountainside Assembly of God Church in Coal Township. Joyce was a teacher at Wheeler Elementary School in Valley Stream in the 1950s, and later at Howell Road Elementary School.
She was a devoted, loving mother and faithful wife. She knew Christ as Lord and Savior, loving and served her family with a deep sense of purpose, while displaying a kind, gracious heart and winsome spirit. She loved history, animals, family, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, James Earl, and his wife Margaret, of North Bloomfield, Ohio, Richard Earl, and his wife Faith, of Sunbury, Robin Earl, of Bealeton, Va., Marjorie Earl, of State College, Pa., and Robert Earlm of Melbourne, Australia; along with 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Jennings.
A public visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring St., Bellefonte, where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Richard Earl officiating.
Burial will follow in Zion Union Cemetery, Walker Township.
