SUNBURY — Lewis W. Rovenolt, 99, of Sunbury, passed away Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, in the Nottingham Village, Northumberland.
He was born in Lewis Township on April 29, 1914, a son of the late Ralph and Grace (Snyder) Rovenolt. He married the former Emily H. Hartman on March 21, 1940.
He graduated from Turbotville High School in 1933, earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Bloomsburg State Teachers College in 1940 and a master of science degree in education from Bucknell University in 1947.
Lewis served with the Navy during World War II.
He served as a teacher in the fifth and sixth grades and as a principal in the Sunbury School District from the late 1940s, retiring from the Shikellamy School District in 1977.
Lewis was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Sunbury. He was also a member of American Legion Post 201 and the Sunbury Social Club.
After retirement, he enjoyed playing golf and his saxophone, playing cards, and socializing with family and friends.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Edward Martz, of Shamokin, and one grandson, Leo Guy Breckenridge IV, of Sunbury.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Glenn; and by two sisters, Ella Williams and Edna Foust.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury with the funeral service following at 11 a.m.
Interment with full military honors will be in the Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.
