HERNDON — Casimir “Cash” Lawrence Brezgel, 79, of 228 Brezgel Lane, passed away suddenly Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 28, 1934, in Sunbury, a son of the late Charles S. and Helen (Gappa) Brezgel. Casimir was married on April 23, 1960, in New Bloomfield, to the former Joan Kretzing, who survives.
Cash was a 1953 graduate of Mahanoy Joint High School.
He spent all his life as a dairy and beef cattle farmer. He also had been employed by Eastern Industries as a truck driver.
Cash was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church Trevorton; The Farmers Union; Gratz Antique Tractor Assoc., served as vice president on the Northumberland County Fair Board, and was instrumental in its development. He was a life member of the Herndon Fire Company, and a member of the National Trappers Association.
He was a passionate farmer and lover of the outdoors. He also enjoyed woodworking and tinkering with tractors.
The greatest joys of his life were his children and great- grandchildren and especially loved giving 4-wheeler rides to his grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Casimir J. Brezgel and companion Rita Rough, of Herndon, and Michael J. Brezgel and wife Ann, of Herndon; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Gary Torisky, of Duncannon, Suzanne and Barry Schwartz, of Marlton, N.J., and Cynthia and John Gindhart, of Cherry Hill, N.J.; 13 grandchildren, Anthony Brezgel and wife Donette, Ryan, Andrea, Jillian, James, Jenna, Jordan Brezgel, Kristopher Torisky, Ethan and Camryn Schwartz, Courtney, Samantha and Zachary Gindhart; three great-grandchildren, Miley and Makenzie Brezgel and Kale Levan; two sisters, Virginia Strosser, of Lancaster, and Leona Simko and husband John, of Shamokin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Faeth.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Church, 331 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton. followed by a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. witth the Rev. Steven Frenier officiating.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
