SHAMOKIN — Alvin F. “Cookie” Marcheski, 74, of 1215 East Clay Street, passed away at 10:10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at Mountain View: A Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Coal Township.
He was born in Shamokin, on March 11, 1939, a son of the late Elizabeth “Betty” (Balchunas) and Alvin Marcheski. On June 3, 2006, in Shamokin, he married Janice A. (Weikel) Marcheski, who survives him.
Cookie graduated in 1957 from Coal Township High School.
He worked as a laborer for Harrisburg Union Local #1180 and D.H. Evans & Associates, Harrisburg.
Mr. Marcheski was of the Catholic faith and a parishioner of Our Lady of Hope Church, Coal Township, and the former St. Stephen Church.
During his younger years, he was an active firefighter. He was a member of the Maine Fire Company, Coal Township.
Cookie was an avid golfer and also enjoyed fishing.
In addition to Janice, his loving wife, Cookie is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Alvin “Chipper” and Julia Marcheski, of Las Vegas, Nev., David and Lorraine Marcheski, of Shamokin, Robert and Dawn Marcheski, of Kulpmont, Michael and Kathy Marcheski, of Coal Township, and Christopher and Carrie Marcheski, of Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one stepdaughter, Tara Pierce, of Selinsgrove; two stepsons and their spouses, Douglas and Heather Weikel, of Bellfonte, and Thomas and Amy Dobeck, of Barnesville; three stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-granddaughter; one sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Rich Kashner, of Paxinos; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Ronald “Peanuts” and Phyllis Marcheski, of Coal Township, William Marcheski, of Coal Township, and Dennis Marcheski, of Sunnyside; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family members and friends will be received from noo to 1 p.m. Tuesday at James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township, followed by a Religious Funeral Service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Mr. Robert P. Mack, Deacon, officiating.
Burial will follow services in Northumberland Memorial Park, Garden of Devotion, Sunbury.
