SUNBURY — George E. Marks, 86, of Sunbury, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Manor Care, Sunbury.
He was born Feb. 9, 1927, in Northumberland, a son of the late George M. and M. Esther (Souloff) Marks. On Jan. 9, 1953, he married the former Nancy L. Moyer, who preceded him in death on July 16, 1986.
George was a 1945 graduate of Northumberland High School and served in the Navy during World War II.
He was a supervisor for the Sunbury Textile Mill, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of the Americus Hose Company and the Northumberland Moose.
George loved to golf, bowl and watch football.
He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Susanne Fisher, of Sunbury and Laurie A. and Mark Bartlow, of Marietta, Ga.; three grandchildren, J. Michael Fisher, Marcia Zurn and Derek Bartlow; two great-grandchildren, Kerin Fisher and J.C. Fisher; one sister, Lois Strouse, of Mount Wolfe; one brother, Melvin Marks, of England; five nieces and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Marks; three nieces; and one nephew.
Friends will be received from 10 to 10:55 a.m. Wednesday in the David T. Zweier Funeral Home Inc., 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 11 with Pastor Lee Crosley, of Trinity Wesleyan Church, Sunbury, officiating.
Interment will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
