Miller E. Shoemaker, 100, Mifflinburg

— MIFFLINBURG — Miller E. Shoemaker, 100, of 797 Conley Road, a lifelong resident of Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at ManorCare, Sunbury, where he had been a resident since 2010.

He was born Jan. 12, 1913, in Mifflinburg, a son of the late Clarence and Mary (Miller) Shoemaker. On April 6, 1940, in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg, he married the former Hazel I. Ruhl who preceded him in death on Oct. 26, 2004.

Miller was a 1931 graduate of Mifflinburg High School.

He was a lifelong farmer and owned and operated his family dairy farm, Sho-Ru Farm, Mifflinburg.

He was a lifelong member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg.

Miller enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Rapid Run Rod and Gun Club, Mifflinburg. He was also a member of the Young Farmers Association and the Registered Holstein Association.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Barry W. and Andrea G. Shoemaker, Larry E. and Beverly E. Shoemaker, and Michael D. and Janet M. Shoemaker, all of Mifflinburg; three sisters, Margaret Smith and Alma Moyer, of Lewisburg, and Mary Kathryn Ruhl, of Mifflinburg; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Steven Shoemaker, of Millmont, Mark and Tiffany Shoemaker, of Mifflinburg, Kristen and Jason Tweed, of Northumberland, Jonathan Shoemaker, of Danville, Lori and Kevin Heimbach, of Winfield, Shawn and Sandra Shoemaker, of Mifflinburg, Amy and Neil Moyer, of Mifflinburg, and Tim Shoemaker, of Millmont; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Rodney Shoemaker; and three sisters, Carolyn Dale, Lorene Alexander, and Lena Johnson.

Family and friends are welcome from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 404 Market St., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 with the Rev. Peter Bergstresser, officiating.

Burial will be in the Mifflinburg Cemetery.
