— SUNBURY — Edward Lee Mackert, 76, passed away on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, with his family by his side.

Edward was born, Sept.13, 1937, in Sunbury, to the late Edward W. and Marguerite I. Burgess.

 Ed graduated from Sunbury High School in 1955. In 1957, he married the former Sandra Frank and recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary.  

He entered the armed services in September 1956 through March 1959. He was a private first class serving in the Army Security Agency. He was stationed in Germany.

He established, owned and managed Mackert’s Masonry in Sunbury, for more than 40 years.

Ed was a member of the Original PA 1000 Yard Benchrest Club Inc. and won first place honors at the 1996 Super Shoot in Quantico, Vir.  He loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

He could be found sharing colorful stories with many family and friends especially at the Sunbury Sub Shop and Young’s Sporting Goods.

He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and the Americus Hose Company, the Sunbury Moose, and was a member of Masonic Temple.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sunbury.

Edward is survived by one son, Edward L. Mackert and girlfriend, Beth Onesi, of Sunbury; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Doug Moyer, Teresa and Jeff Kauffman, and Stephanie and Chris Derk, all of Sunbury; grandchildren, Michael Moyer and wife, Meghan, Nicholas Moyer, Brad and wife, Alison Moyer, Joshua Kauffman and fiancé, Stephanie Schwartz, Brandon Kauffman and girlfriend, Brittany  Stettler , Brianne Kauffman, Kylie Derk, Emily Derk, Edward Mackert and fiancé, Alicia Hoffman; Chasity Mackert and fiancé, Louis MacMillan; great-grandchildren, Asher Moyer, Aiden Mackert, Aubrey Kauffman, Logan Kauffman, Ryan Kauffman, Chase MacMillan and he was looking forward to the newest arrival, Aniston Lane Moyer, due any day; and one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Larry Corcoran.

He was preceded in death by one infant daughter in 1957; onesister, Ester Murphy; and one grandson, Joshua Mackert.

Friends may call from 10 to 11:50 a.m. Tuesday at the David T. Zweier Funeral Home Inc. 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury, Pa., followed by the funeral at noon with the Rev Adrian Shearer officiating.

Burial will follow in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.
