LEWISBURG — Richard “Jack” Chabala, 70, of JPM Road, passed away on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at his home.
He was born March 18, 1943, in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late Nicholas and Sophie (Letinski) Chabala. He was married to the former June Remus who survives. His death breaks a marital union of 45 years.
Jack was a 1960 graduate of James M Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre. Following graduation, he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Pakistan and later in the Florida Keys during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
After his time in the service he attended broadcast school and worked for WESB in Bradford. He later worked for WOTT in Watertown, N.Y., WMLP in Milton, and WKOK in Sunbury. On air he was known as Jack Richards.
Jack loved golf, Bucknell basketball games and in earlier years, fishing with his sons.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Melody Oliveri, of Selinsgrove, Mark Oliveri, of Mifflinburg, Melinda Oliveri, of Lewisburg, Matt Oliveri, of Mifflinburg, and Chad Chabala, of Portland, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Barbara Cirelli, of Plains.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Mike Oliveri and Jack Richard “JR” Chabala.
Friends and relatives will be received from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 Broadway, Milton, with the Rev. John D. Hoke as celebrant.
Burial with military honors will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Milton.
