SUNBURY — M. Kathryn Mottern, 98, of Sunbury, passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, in the Golden Living Center Mansion, Sunbury. She formerly lived at Riverfront Apartments in Sunbury for 25 years.
She was born April 20, 1915, in Northumberland, a daughter of the late Francis and Lenna (Smeltz) Hummel. She was married to John C. Mottern, who preceded her in death in 1986.
Kathryn was a 1933 graduate of Northumberland High School.
She was employed for 40 years by the former W.T. Grant store in Sunbury.
She was a member of the Sunbury Senior Action Center, the Ramblers Club and the Order of Eastern Star.
Kathryn enjoyed sewing, trips to the beach and going to Texas to visit her grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, John L. Mottern, of Palestine, Texas; five grandchildren, Maureen Lesher, Kate Quick, Ryan Mottern, Jason Mottern and J.J. Mottern; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Sally Swank, of Northumberland; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Sampsell and Helen Hummel, both of Northumberland.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Quick; one grandson, Steven Quick; three sisters, Wilma Boyer, Ruth Geise, and Margaret Erdley; and two brothers, Gordon and George Hummel.
A private graveside service will be held in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 309 Water St., Northumberland.
