Jean M. Santucci, 87, Winfield

WINFIELD — Jean Mathilde Santucci, 87, of Winfield, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

She was born Dec. 2, 1925, in Koblenz, Germany, a daughter of the late Pierre and Mathilde Helena (Franz) Allen. She was married for 50 years to William M. Santucci, who preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 2005.

Jean was a graduate of Cathedral High School, New York, and studied at New York University.

She worked as a social worker for Children and Youth Services, Union County. Jean retired as a caseworker for CMSU, Danville.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Lewisburg, where she served as a religious coordinator for 19 years and was a religion instructor for the CCD program. She also served as a Eucharist minister and lector. Jean was a member and past president of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women.

Jean was a member and past president of the Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary Ladies Auxiliary. She was a major advocate for Children and Youth Services, as well as supporting those with mental health and retardation. Jean was the founder of Choose a Child, which provided gifts to underprivileged children at Christmas.

Jean had a great love for cooking and enjoyed preparing a feast for the family and guests. Her greatest love, however, was spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Mario S. and his wife, Donna Santucci, of West Chester, N.Y., William T. Santucci, of Northumberland, Lisa A. Santucci, of Shillington, Mary M. Tiffin, of Winfield, Laura E. Santucci-Burley and her husband, Joel, of Northumberland, and Stephanie J. Santucci, of Stafford, Va.; one sister and brother-in-law, Cornelia and James Pappas, of Crestwood, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one sister and brother-in-law, Christine and John Raymond; two brothers, Theodore and George; one daughter-in-law, Jill Santucci; and one son-in-law, David Tiffin.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Church, 41 S. Eighth St., Lewisburg, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 with her pastor, the Rev. Msgr William R. Richardson, as celebrant. Aprayer vigil will be held at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Burial will be in Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.

The family welcomes flowers; however, if desired, memorial contributions can be made to either the Council of Catholic Women of Sacred Heart Church, 41 S. Eighth St., Lewisburg, PA 17837, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or online at
