RICHFIELD — Sherwood F. Hoy Jr., 76, of Richfield, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, in the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born May 24, 1937, in Harrisburg, a son of the late Sherwood and Susan (Bonawitz) Hoy. He married the former Lois E. Beaver on June 30, 1962 and his death breaks a marital union of 51 years.
Sherwood was a graduate of Millersburg High School where he excelled as a left handed baseball pitcher.
He was last employed by the Novinger Construction Co., Harrisburg. He was later employed part time helping a friend in the roofing business.
Sherwood had many interests including the restoration of his coupe, Inky, trapping, hunting, fishing, drag racing, attending auctions, flea markets and spotting deer. He was an outstanding trap shooter and won many awards for it.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Nevin R. Hoy, of Richfield and Keith A. Hoy, of Dalmatia; one daughter, Donna L. Enders, of Halifax; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Melanie Elaine Hoy; and one sister, Sue Lynn Hoy.
There will be no funeral service and interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St. Sunbury.
