Robert D. Curtis, 78, Lewisburg

— LEWISBURG — Robert D. Curtis, 78, of 160 Hawthorne Drive, passed away early Sunday morning, Aug. 18, 2013, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.

A native of Utica, N.Y., he was born June 18, 1935, the son of the late Edward F. and Elsie (Ritz) Curtis. On Aug. 6, 1960, he married the former Noel Karr, and his death breaks a marital union of 53 years.

Bob graduated from Ridgewood High School in New Jersey, received a bachelor’s degree from St. Lawrence University of New York and earned a master’s from Columbia University in New York.

Bob had a long history in coaching beginning on the high school level. He was head football coach at Franklin and Marshall College from 1971 to 1974 with a record of 32-3 and was the winner of the coveted Lambert Bowl in 1972. Bob was to be inducted into the Franklin and Marshall College Hall of Fame this October.

Bob served as head football coach at Bucknell University from 1975 to 1985. He was director of athletics at Carlisle High School. After retiring, he helped with strength and conditioning for the Bucknell baseball teams under Coach Depew.

Coach Bob loved to talk sports and fitness training to anyone willing to listen.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Michael, of Lewisburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Chris Moseman, of Lititz; one sister, Carole McGrail; one brother-in-law, Dan Touw; and six nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Nancy.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church, 18 Market St., Lewisburg, with the Rev. Dr. James C. King officiating.

A private burial will be in Lewisburg Cemetery.

The family will provide flowers and asks that donations in Bob’s memory be made to either the Bison Club, c/o Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA 17837, or to the Franklin and Marshall College Athletic Department, P.O. Box 3003, Lancaster, PA 17604-3003.

Funeral arrangements are by the John H. Shaw III Funeral Home, Market and Eighth streets. Lewisburg.
