Joseph R. Bradley, 82, Danville

DANVILLE — Joseph R. Bradley, 82, of 4 Grotto Lane, formerly of Shamokin, died on Sunday, April 28, 2013, at home with his loving family, following a lengthy illness.

Joseph was born May 30, 1930, in Mahanoy City, a son of the late William P. and Josephine (Heffner) Bradley.

He graduated from Shamokin Catholic High School in 1948 and Georgetown University in 1952.

Joseph worked with his father and brother, William, for many years in the family business, Yoch Bakery in Shamokin.

He was a member of St. Edward’s Roman Catholic Church and Our Lady of Hope Church in Shamokin and most recently attended Mass at Maria Joseph Manor in Danville. He was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America for many years, served as a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Hope and was a member of the Elks and the American Retail Bakers Association.

He was a very proud alumnus of Georgetown University who enjoyed collecting antique and classic cars, Civil War history and spending many summers with his children and grandchildren in Ocean City, N.J. He was a very loving, devout husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Irene (Grill) Bradley; his brother and sister-in-law, William A. and Beatrice Bradley, of Shamokin; seven children and their spouses, Jayne (Bradley) and Warren Lux, of Washington, D.C., Brian and Lori (Milbrand) Bradley, of Trevorton, Bruce and Jane Mary (Bratschi) Bradley, of Wayne, Patrick and Lisa (Gilger) Bradley, of Harrisburg, Kevin and Karen (Karcher) Bradley, of Cypress, Texas, Susan (Bradley) and Roger Little, of Glenshaw, and Timothy and Anna (Colleli) Bradley, of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; 13 grandchildren, Cassandra, Megan and Scott Bradley, Shannon and Lance Cpl. Joseph Bradley, USMC, Amanda Spencer and Nicholas Bradley, Samuel and Dustin Little, and Brianna, Matthew Bradley, Claudia and Ashley Bradley; and many nieces and nephews who are mourning his death.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Hope Church, 800 W. Chestnut St. and First Street, Coal Township, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10  with the Rev. Adrian Gallagher, O.F.M., Conv., as celebrant.

Interment services will follow Mass in All Saints Cemetery, 172 All Saints Road, Elysburg.
