Theodore W. “Dory” Bakowicz, 92, Shamokin

SHAMOKIN — Theodore W. “Dory” Bakowicz, 92, of 714 E. Race St., passed away Monday evening, May 6, 2013, at the Manor at Susquehanna Village, Millersburg.

He was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Excelsior, a son of the late Nicholas and Barbara (Kutzer) Bakowicz. On July 13, 1946, in the former St. Edward’s Church, Shamokin, he married the former Pauline A. Klemick who preceded him in death on July 26, 2005.

He entered in the Army Air Corp on Jan. 20, 1942, and served with 5th Air Corp, 8th Bomber Group during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific. He received his honorable discharge on June 23, 1945, attaining the rank of staff sergeant.

For many years he was employed as a concrete plant manager for the former Shamokin-Danville Redi-Mix Company, and later Central Builders Supply, until his retirement.

He was a member of Mother Cabrini Church, Friendship Fire Company, Shamokin, and Sunny Hills Golf Club, Sunbury.

Dad’s passion was playing golf. If the sun was out, dad was out. He took great pride in having eight P.G.A. officially sanctioned holes-in-one, all occurring after the age of 70. He also always enjoyed out scoring his 66 year old son.

Dad will be sadly missed by all of his friends and loving family, which include three sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Sandy Bakowicz, of Danville, David and Carol Bakowicz, of Bartlett, Tenn., and George and Terry Bakowicz, of Elizabethville; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Ted and Allison Bakowicz, Gina and Mark Horne, Rachael Bakowicz, Jillian and Lonnie Fletcher, Allison and Pat Bunker, Andrew Bakowicz, and Katherine Bakowicz; five great-grandchildren, Joshua and Elyse Bakowicz, Benjamin Horne, and Nathan and Samantha Fletcher; one sister, Marie Young, of Emmanuel Center, Danville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Krepshaw, Eva Cosentino, and Anna Connaghan; four brothers, John, Joseph, Nicholas, and Wasil Bakowicz; and one great-grandson, Lucas Horne.

A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, with Christian wake service at 8, and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, in the Stephen A. Chowka Funeral Home, 114 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, in Mother Cabrini Church, Shamokin. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap.
