DANVILLE — Joseph Earl Ross, 88, of Danville, passed awayon Thursday, May 9, 2013, in his home, after a long illness. He was born in Sunbury, Feb. 21, 1925, a son of the late Alexander and Verna (DeWitt) Ross. On June 2, 1950, he married Helen J. McWilliams, who preceded him in death, July 14, 2011.
Earl graduated from Sunbury High School in 1943 and then went on to serve his country in the Army during World War II. He worked for many year at Paulsen Wire Rope retiring in 1988.
He was the proud owner of Ross’s Orchards. Earl enjoyed attending the Lewisburg and Shamokin markets. He was a member of Klinesgrove United Methodist Church, where he had 22 years of perfect attendance. He also was instrumental in starting the annual apple butter boil at his church.
Surviving are his children, David A. and Allan E., both of Danville, and Joanne E. and husband Greg Bloom, and Naomi S. Wetzel, all of Sunbury; grandchildren Rebekah Pastuzek and husband David, Elizabeth Wetzel and fiancée Ronald Gay II, Benjamin Wetzel and fiancée Monica Alarcon, Abigail Wetzel, and Alexander Wetzel, all of Sunbury, Kevin Ross and friend Trista Gilbert, of Williamstown, and Shannon Bloom and Dalton Bloom, of Sunbury; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond, of Sunbury; two sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were brothers, Russell, Charles, Howard, Walter, Harley and Paul.
Friends will be received from 10 to 10:55 a.m. Tuesday at the David T. Zweier Funeral Home, Inc., 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral service at 11 with the Rev. Lori Betsworth, his pastor, officiating.
