June L. Shellenberger, 71, Richfield

RICHFIELD — June L. Shellenberger, 71, of Richfield, entered into rest on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Her passing was sudden and unexpected.

She was born on June 11, 1942, in Juniata County, Monroe Township, a daughter of Ethel M. (Lauver) Renninger, of Selinsgrove, and the late Arthur D. Renninger. On March 25, 1960, she was married to Harold E. Shellenberger, who survives. They shared a loving marital union of 53 years.

June was employed at the former Richfield Shirt Factory and later was an activity aide at the Selinsgrove Center, retiring after 19 and one half years of service.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and participated in various church activities, such as choir, WELCA, and adult Sunday school.

Mrs. Shellenberger had taken two mission trips to Costa Rica. She volunteered for the American Red Cross and also did volunteer duties for Abundant Blessings clothing and household items thrift store, Mifflintown.

Shopping and spending time with her granddaughters was cherished by June as were times spent talking with friends. She walked nearly seven miles on a daily basis. Yard sales, enjoyment with flowers and sewing were added pastime activities.

In addition to her mother and husband, June is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bruce A. and Kathy, of Middleburg; four granddaughters, Heidi, Emma, Sara and Brandy Shellenberger; five great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl and Lorraine Renninger, of Mount Pleasant Mills, John and Audrey Renninger and Stanley and Lorraine Renninger, all of Richfield; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois and Robert Reichenbach, of Mount Pleasant Mils, and Carol and Phil Swartz, of Tallahassee, Fla.; nieces; and nephews.

Mrs. Shellenberger was preceded by one son, Douglas Eugene “Doug” Shellenberger on June 25, 2003, and by one brother, Paul Renninger.

The family will receive friends for the viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church, Richfield. The casket will then be closed. The Service of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Andrew C. Weaver, officiating.

Burial will be in Richfield Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Richfield Ambulance League, Richfield, PA 17086; or to St. John Lutheran Church, Richfield, PA 17086; or to a charity of the donors choosing.

The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to The George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc., 9366 Rt. 35, Mount Pleasant Mills.
