LEWISBURG — Henry A. Keefer, 93, of Kelly Apartments, passed away on Monday evening, June 17, 2013, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.
A native of Union County, he was born Dec. 16, 1919, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Herman and Ruth (Fetzer) Keefer. He was married to the former Dorothy K. Mull, who preceded him in death in 1983 after 37 years of marriage.
Henry attended Lewisburg schools. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army in the European Theater, where he received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Medal, EAME Theater Service Medal with five Bronze Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead Victory Medal.
Henry retired from the International Paper Co. in 1985 as a machine operator. He previously was employed for more than 20 years at H. Warshow & Sons.
He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, a life member of the Montandon Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Montandon American Legion.
Henry enjoyed fishing, bowling and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Linda Keefer, of New Columbia; one daughter and son-in-law, Dottie and Dave Martin, of Ocean Pines, Md.; four grandchildren, Eric Keefer, Andrea Bertram, Diane Walsh and Brenda Sroka; eight grandchildren, Jordan, Mackenzie and Seth Bertram, Miranda and Ian Keefer and Ella, Lola and Rowan Sroka; and two sisters, Dorothy Baker and Helen Miller.
He was preceded in death by one brother, William J. Keefer, serving in the 8th Air Force in 1943.
Friends and relatives will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in the John H. Shaw III Funeral Home, Market and Eighth streets, Lewisburg, followed by the funeral at 1 with the Rev. John E. Lee officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow in Mazeppa Cemetery.
