Kenneth L. Fisher, 93, Montandon

— MONTANDON — Kenneth L. Fisher, 93, of Montandon, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.

He was born Aug. 28, 1920, in Union County, a son of the late James C. and Ruth (Bingaman) Fisher. On Aug. 6, 1944, he married the former Lorene Snyder who preceded him in death Dec. 14, 2005. Together they celebrated 61 years of marriage.

Ken was a 1938 graduate of Montandon High School. Following graduation he worked for Bechtel Farms, Philco Cabinets and PennDOT.

During World War II he served in the Army in Greenland, New Guinea, the Phillipines, Luzon and Japan and was awarded four bronze stars for his service. When he returned home, Ken worked for the former Sheets Store in Montandon for more than 50 years.

Ken was a member of the Montandon United Methodist Church, where he was the treasurer of the Men’s Sunday school class for many years and served on many church committees. He was a lifetime and charter member of the Montandon American Legion Post 841 for 68 years.

Ken lived in Montandon for most of his life. In 2004  he moved to Elizabethville to live with his daughter and son-in-law. While living with them for six years, he loved trips to Disney World, Ocean City, Md., and the World War II Memorial. In 2010, he moved to Polk Personal Care, Millersburg and in 2013, he became a resident at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Glenn Buffington, of Elizabethville; grandson, Matthew Buffington and wife, Hillary, of Elizabethville; one great-granddaughter, Laila Anne Buffington; one great-grandson, Benjamin Matthew Buffington; one sister-in-law, Janice Kitchen, of Danville; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Ruth Snyder, of Bloomsburg; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brother, Donald J. Fisher; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hockenberry Fisher; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Alma Rarig Snyder.

Friends will be received from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Montandon United Methodist Church, Route 45, Montandon, followed by the funeral at 3 with Pastor Joan S. Dodson officiating.

Burial with full military honors will follow in Montandon Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Nottingham Village and the caregivers from Polk Personal Care for their kindness and compassionate care.
