McEWENSVILLE — William S. Johnson, 87, of Susquehanna Trail, passed away on Monday, July 1,2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born in Jim Thorpe on March 26, 1926, he was the son of the late Samuel and Ethel Mae (Lohman) Johnson. He was married to Jean (Hilkert) Johnson, who died in 1965, and to June A. (Woodruff) Johnson, who died in 2005.
Bill attended Milton High School in 1942 and became a licensed barber in 1943, learning the trade from his grandfather, Skeet Lohman.
After that, he joined the Navy, serving on the USS Hornet in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He retired from the Navy after 22 years as a first class petty officer.
He then worked for the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.
Bill liked to bowl and to spend time with his family and friends.
He loved animals and enjoyed time with Bandit and Honey, who will miss him greatly.
He was a member of United in Christ Lutheran Church, West Milton, American Legion Post 182, Lewisburg, and of the Free Masons since he was 22.
He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Sunny and Tony Seidel, of California, and Kimberly Johnson, of Catawissa; two sons, John Ficks, of McEwensville, and Tim Johnson, of Milton; nine grandchildren, Kevin Seidel, of California, Brad Seidel, of Oregon, Tamera O’Donnell, of Lewisburg, Diane Bulkeley, of Colorado, Tony Bingaman, of Weikert, Tehra Verdikal, of Bloomsburg, Erin Sheppard, of North Dakota, Scott Ficks, of Williamsport, and Jason Ficks, of Lewisburg; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Friends and relatives will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at United in Christ Lutheran Church, 1875 Churches Road, Lewisburg, where the funeral will follow at 11 with the Rev. Leah Schade as celebrant.
Burial with military honors will be in Harmony Cemetery, Milton.
Arrangements are under the care of the Shaw Funeral Home, Milton.
