Bernard C. “Jack” Hostler, 88, Troxelville

TROXELVILLE — Bernard  C. “Jack” Hostler, 88, of Troxelville, passed away at 1:15 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2013, Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

He was born March 21, 1925, in Mexico, Juniata County, a son of the late David W. and Lillian M. (Kauffman) Hostler. On June 11, 1950, he married the former Ruby I. Helwig, who preceded him in death on May 26, 2006.

Jack was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy.

He had been employed at Kinney Shoe, Beaver Springs, and later was a carpenter for Walt Sheaffer and George Stahr Builders.

Jack attended St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Beavertown.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandchildren and was a faithful listener of Rush Limbaugh.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Roy V. “Buck” and Glenda Hostler, of McClure; five daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene S. and Delbert Hosler, of McClure, Mary Ann and Leroy Reich, of Beaver Springs, Martyne M. and Alan Edmiston, of McClure, Wanda J. and Imeri Jensen, of Leesburg, Fla., and Ruby M. and Herbert Moyer, of Troxelville; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Mark and Teresa Hosler, Daniel and Amie Hosler, Billy and Jennifer Hostler, Roy and Andree Hostler, Charity Breon, Sarah Hostler, Amanda Edmiston, Jaynel and Matt Dye, Wayne Reich, and Thomas Diehl and fiancee, Nicki Musser; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rusty Hostler, of Tuscarora and Bob Hostler, of Mexico; and four sisters, Charlotte Foster, of Mexico, Wilma Yokum, of Mifflintown, Joyce Hack, of Mexico, and Betty Brachbill, of Mifflintown.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Mystie Rose Diehl; one brother, Homer Hostler; and one sister, Virginia Hosler.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Middle Road, Beavertown, with the Rev. Kathy Mercado officiating.

Burial with military honors by the Middle West Veterans will be in the Troxelville Union Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg.
